Bingo Cards

In the United States and Canada, a very popular game of chance is Bingo. This gambling card game consists of randomly selected numbers that players must match to the numbers that appear on a 5x5 matrice. The matrice is more commonly known as a Bingo card. These Bingo cards are traditionally printed out for players on cardboard or another type of non-reusable paper but they can also be electronically represented whenever a player is playing online or on a machine in a casino. In fact, more and more places are actually beginning to use computerized Bingo cards. A player's goal is to be the first person to have a card upon which the randomly drawn numbers form a specified pattern. As such, it is important to understand just what this Bingo card really is.

A Bingo card contains 24 numbered spaces and 1 blank space (also known as a “clean” space) that is located directly in the middle of the card for a total of 25 spaces in all. (A player automatically gets to cover the blank space on his card.) These 25 spaces are aligned on the paper in 5 columns that consist of 5 rows each. Each of these rows is assigned a letter. The letters themselves spell out the word “Bingo.” Then within each of the rows there is a random set of numbers. These numbers appear as such... The letter “B” has numbers that range from 1 through 15. The letter “I” has numbers that range from 16 through 30. The letter “N” has numbers that range from 31 through 45. The letter “G” has numbers that range from 46 through 60. The letter “O” has numbers that range from 61 through 75. As you can imagine, if you know what numbers are located in each row you have a strategy that will give you a better chance at winning the Bingo game that you are playing. However, this is still very much a game of chance since these numbers are chosen randomly from 1 card to the next.

It is interesting to note that Bingo has been around since 1530 since the numbers on Bingo cards need to be so random. Of course, back then the game was quite different than what we know it as today. Over the years Bingo cards have also grown and matured thanks to the use of computers. Today computers are used to choose the random numbers that are used on the Bingo cards.
